Useful information for tourists

1. Currency and payment

In Batumi, as throughout Georgia, the official currency is the lari (GEL). Most restaurants and cafes accept bank cards (Visa, MasterCard), but smaller establishments, especially family-run ones, may require you to pay in cash. It is recommended to always have some GEL with you in case the terminal is temporarily out of service or payment is possible only in cash.

2. Tipping

Tipping in Georgia is not obligatory, but it is always welcome. In some establishments the service fee (usually 10%) is already included in the bill - it will be indicated on the receipt. If service is not included, you can leave 10-15% of the order amount.

3. Prices in restaurants

Prices in Batumi's establishments vary. In cafes and home restaurants (like ‘Yak Vdoma’) the average check for a full meal for one person is from 25 to 40 GEL. In more refined places (for example, G.Garden or Panorama Batumi) dinner with wine can cost from 60 to 100 GEL per person. Breakfasts - from 15 to 25 GEL.

4. Language and communication

Staff in tourist areas often speak English, Russian or even a little Turkish. The menus of most establishments have English translations, and in popular restaurants there are also Russian translations. Even if you don't know Georgian, you won't have any problems ordering.

Most cafes and restaurants in Batumi are open from 10:00 to midnight, but many open from 8:00 - especially those offering breakfast.
